Every year I write a letter to the princesses Mom and Dad. It's mostly a chance for me to brag about how cool their kid is and how she is growing and developing into one cool kid. I've never put them out on her blog, but I decided that this would be a great way for her (the princess)to have them some day so this is the letter that I wrote this year. (I did go through and take out her name...we do use her name in the real letter!)
Even though I write these letter each year we know that they are not being read. They are sitting in a file folder in the agencies filing cabinet which is sad, but at least if the princesses parents ever change their mind they will have the opportunity to know how awesome their daughter is.
Another year finds the princess growing and getting into all sorts of new things. She has had another great year with lots of ups and very few downs.
She is now 48” tall and very happy to tell anybody that she is now 4 feet tall. She is up to a whopping 46 lbs. which means we still find it a great challenge to find any kind of pants that will stay up on her tiny hips!
School continues to be one of her favorite places. She is actually home on spring break this week and asked this morning if she could just go to school! She has loved 1st grade as much as kindergarten and adjusted well to a new style of teacher this year. Her favorite subjects seem to be math and science. She is reading on an almost 3rd grade level right now which is amazing because she hates to read! We struggle everyday to get her to read the required 15 minutes, but she excels at it.
She took the spring off from soccer, but asked to return in the fall so we let her and it was amazing. She was a new player after being away from the game. She scored her first goals ever and showed that she was really beginning to understand the game. We just started the spring season last week and she is excited about getting to play again.
The summer was spent mostly at the pool. She was able to take a trip to Alabama to spend a week with my brother and her kids which she loved. And she was able to participate in several VBS’s and dance camp.
During the winter we gave her the choice to swim, cheerlead, play basketball, or do nothing. She surprised everybody by choosing basketball. She played on a team with 1st-3rd grade girls so she was the little person among the giants! She did manage to score a basket in her next to last game and she was so proud of herself. She continues to love to dribble the ball all around our house and says she will be playing again next winter!
She is in her 4th year of dance and enjoys her time with her class, but I think we may be coming to the end of ballet and tap. She is now talking about wanting to take hip-hop!!
In February we were able to spend a week in Florida visiting Magic Kingdom and Sea World. She fell in love with Sea World and now claims that she is going to be a dolphin trainer when she grows up. She has a family of dolphins that she sleeps with every night.
The biggest change of her life has been the arrival of her brother in October. Little Man also came to us by way of adoption. She has embraced the role of big sister in every way. She is very proud of her brother and is quick to let everyone know that she is the big sister. She hops off the bus everyday asking for his whereabouts if I haven’t been able to get him to the bus.
The princess continues to be a total delight. She has a very kind heart that somehow always seems to remember to put others first. She is very sensitive to what others needs are and what they may be thinking and feeling. She is also determined that she will treat everyone fairly which means that she is friends with every one!
She is not our daredevil by any means though. We are still challenging her to learn to ride her bike because she is terrified that she might get hurt. She is very careful to not do anything that might end up with her getting hurt which means I don’t worry much about her doing anything crazy!
She continues to be a talker who stops only to sleep so there is constantly chatter in our home and it is always enlightening to hear all those thoughts coming out!
We love this little girl that you have entrusted to us very much. It is hard to believe that for not much longer will we be able to call her a little girl though!
