When the princess was pretty young we decided that we weren't going to do the whole Santa gig with her. We had good solid reasons for making that decision. Now she is old enough to really understand that she has tons of friends who are into Santa and she's old enough to realize that we made a conscious decision to make that choice for her. In her 7, almost 8 year old wisdom she has asked that we make a different choice for Little Man. She really wants him to be excited about Santa and she has already come up with a rather detailed plan on how that is going to happen.
Tonight she went with me to grocery shop and she laid out her plan for me. First of all she wants him to be able to write a letter to Santa and tell him what he wants for Christmas and then she is going to write Little Man back herself. But first she has to learn cursive because Santa is an old guy so he must write cursive. But she might not know enough cursive by next Christmas so I might need to write the letter when she is in 3rd grade, but she will do all the others. (I didn't bother to tell her he wasn't going to be writing letters period by next Christmas!)
And when he asks why Santa doesn't leave any soot around the house when he comes she is going to explain to Little Man it is because Santa doesn't want us to have to clean up behind him so he cleans it up himself. (If only she would adopt this philosophy in her own life!)
And next year she wants one present for Dad, one for Mom, one for her, and one for Little Man under the tree and they needed to say they were from Santa. (I think this might be her way of getting an extra present out of Christmas, but I'm not sure!)
There is much more to her plan and it'll be interesting to see what she comes up with next year when Christmas comes back around, but I love how she really wants this for her brother and she's going to do everything she can to make it happen.
